Disable Banner Ads in Skype
Before the many updates to Skype post-Microsoft acquisition, simply disabling the promotions options in settings was enough to rid your conversations of unnecessary spam. However, a new banner ad has made its way to the conversation window. This ad wouldn’t be such a bother if it didn’t often cut into the video feed area when going full screen. You can disable ads through just a few steps. Here’s how:
For Skype 6.x
- Click on Start button and head over to Control Panel
2. Then find & Click on Internet Option. A box will appear like this –
3. Click on Security Tab then Restricted Sites
4. Press the Sites button and type https://apps.skype.com in the text box, then Click Add.
5. Then Apply & OK.
6. Restart your PC and start Skype
You just did it successfully!!
Njoy ur Skype 6.whatever version without ads and banners..
For Skype 7.x
- Check for your Skype to update whether there is a new version or not. If no updates are available then quit Skype.
2. Then head over to C:\Users\[yourusername]\AppData\Roaming\Skype\[yourskypeusername]
3. Then find config.xml & right click on it and press edit
4. To find the line < AdvertPlaceholder > quickly, press the button ctrl+f on your keyboard. And then delete the entire line.
5. Save your changes to the file and exit..
6. make sure the file is in read only. apply it and OK..
7. Restart your PC and run Skype and you’re all done!
8. Congratulations..
Note: If you do not see the App Data folder, it’s because you don’t have Shown hidden files enabled. Click the Organize button > Folder and search options > View tab > mark the radio button next to Show hidden files, folders, or drives.
